History Behind Botox Day
Botox, the brand name for the neurotoxin botulinum toxin type A, was first isolated in 1928 by Dr. Sommer at the University of California, San Francisco. In the 1930s, the toxin was researched as a potential biological weapon, but it was later found to have therapeutic uses.
Botox was first approved by the FDA in 1989 for the treatment of eye muscle disorders, and in 2002 it was approved for cosmetic use to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet.
Botox quickly grew in popularity as a non-surgical cosmetic treatment, with over 6.2 million Botox procedures performed worldwide in 2019. To celebrate the impact of Botox, Allergan (the company that produces Botox) established National Botox Cosmetic Day in 2019, which is held annually on the third Wednesday of November.
First Botox Day
The first Botox Cosmetic Day was celebrated in 2019, and it has continued to grow in popularity, with record-breaking numbers of treatments, gift card sales, and social media engagement in recent years. The day is used by Allergan to offer promotions and discounts to customers, as well as to educate the public about the proper and safe use of Botox.
